Amelia Ong Suet Ting

Hi everybody!
I’m Amelia, originally from Malaysia, now studying the Bachelor of Clinical Science/Doctor of Medicine course at Flinders University.
Being a person who enjoys collecting new experiences and meeting new people, I can confidently say that this city is one of the highlights of my life. Adelaide’s beautiful sights, vibrant communities, and incredible cuisines have truly captured my heart, and I don’t ever want to leave.
If I’m not fawning over matcha or gushing about the newest restaurant, best believe I’m submerged in assignments or catching on some much-needed sleep.
My advice for my fellow international students is to not be afraid to do things! I understand feeling out of place, especially in a completely new city. But take it from me, you will do wonderfully. My biggest regret for my first year was that I didn’t go out more! So, do that thing you want to do, try that new restaurant you want to try, and never forget to always have fun!!
I can’t wait to hear more about your experiences! Seeya soon :)

Hi, xin chào!
I’m An from Vietnam, currently studying my Master of Teaching at the University of South Australia. Adelaide was my destination because I was drawn to its peaceful, cozy vibe - the kind of place where you can really slow down, focus, and start a new chapter in life. It’s been such a refreshing change!
Outside of study, I’m all about music, movies, and getting outdoors. I adore being in nature - sunshine, a bit of breeze, good company, and a deep conversation. Long walks with a podcast are especially my go-to stress reliever. I’m also a huge foodie - mostly Asian and Italian, but I’m always ready to try something new. One of my biggest passions is travelling. I love road trips, exploring hidden gems, and just getting lost in new places - whether it’s a city adventure or wandering down a quiet lane somewhere unexpected. There’s always something to discover!
To fellow international students: take each day as it comes. Be open, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Not every day will be perfect, but every moment teaches you something. Join events, ask for help, and enjoy the ride -you’re not alone!

Ashmitha Nagasundaram |

Hello & Apa Khabar!
I’m Ashmitha from the vibrant city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Biotechnology at The University of Adelaide!
Moving to Adelaide has been such a meaningful chapter in my life. I was looking for a city that offered not just quality education, but also a peaceful and balanced lifestyle. Adelaide felt like the right fit — it has just the right pace, is full of life and beautiful places, without ever feeling overwhelming. The supportive international student community here also made my transition so much easier!
When I’m not in the lab or at lectures, I love spending my time doing pilates, yoga, and café hopping with friends. Adelaide has some amazing brunch spots, and I’m always on the hunt for the next best flat white!
To new international students, my biggest piece of advice would be to give yourself time. A new place, new faces and new routines may seem scary at first, but be patient with yourself. Take things one step at a time, stay open to new experiences, and you’ll gradually find your rhythm and your people.
If you ever need a chat, a study buddy, or a good café rec — I’m always happy to help!

Boyeon (Joy) Yoo |

Annyeong!
Hi! My name is Boyeon Yoo, but you can also call me Joy. I’m from South Korea and currently studying the Diploma of Nursing at TAFE SA, which has been such a wonderfully supportive place to learn.
Since 2022, my Aussie journey has taken me all over—from Hilston (7 hours from Sydney!) to five major cities. I’ve had a lot of experiences—working in wineries, grain and cotton industries, and even as a forklift driver!
Now I’m happily settled in Adelaide, a city I absolutely love studying in. A fun fact? I chose Adelaide because people kept saying it was boring, and I thought, “Why not? Let’s find out for myself!” (Spoiler: I love it.)
I love recording memories. Since I was 13, I’ve been making memories through diaries, blogs, and even YouTube. They’re like time machines that help me reflect on each chapter of life.
Living abroad can be a wild and challenging journey (I 100% get it). I’ve faced so many barriers, especially with English, but I got through it—and you will too. Let’s keep moving forward together. Fighting! (In Korean, it means: Cheer up! You can do it!)

Chenzhe (Max) Wang |

Hello,
It's Max, a Chinese student pursuing a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at The University of Adelaide. As a history fan, I chose this beautiful city named after Queen Adelaide, a perfect combination of studies, work and life.
You will probably see me discovering nature or inside a rescue truck to help other people during the weekend, from just a walk, hike, or rock-climbing, there are so many things South Australia can offer to you!
Here are some pieces of advice: you only live your life once, dare mighty things, keep trying new things, stretch yourself a bit more, do self-reflection regularly and learn from failures. Apply for the dream job, talk to the employers, and connect with like-minded people. Thinking of nobody has done this before? Then it is my turn to be the first one! Believe in yourself that you are special and exceptional, take pride in what you are doing and keep learning.

David Kingu |
Mambo! Warm Swahili greetings from Tanzania, a nation nestled in the heart of the African Great Lakes region. I’m David Kingu, a student currently studying a Bachelor's in Economics, Finance and Trade at the University of South Australia.
Adelaide was an easy choice. My sisters studied here, and I witnessed firsthand how this city's warm community, serene environment, and academic culture can shape someone's trajectory.
I'm passionate about football, culture, cooking and music, with playlists jumping from Amapiano to R&B and old-school hip-hop. For me, nothing hits like homemade Swahili chapati paired with my mum's coconut beans and roast beef, washed down with a cold glass of sharubati (fresh juice). Trust me, that combo’s undefeated!
To my fellow international students: be open to new experiences, ask questions, and build relationships. Adelaide isn't just about what you know; it's who you meet. That advice has shaped my journey, and I hope it shapes yours too. It’s a privilege to serve as your StudyAdelaide Ambassador, and I look forward to connecting with you.

Emma Paulina Cruz Mora |

Hola! I’m Paulina Cruz, originally from México. I’m currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Information Technology (Enterprise Management) at the University of South Australia.
I believe in the randomness of coincidence — those little unexpected moments that somehow lead you exactly where you’re meant to be. That’s exactly what happened to me in Adelaide. One day, completely by chance, I came across a graduation ceremony happening and felt something spark inside me. I just knew I wanted to study here and be part of that. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made.
I think it’s an amazing city, and I’ve completely fallen in love with its enjoyable lifestyle. Whether you’re at the beach, gardens, in the city, or exploring the hills, this place has everything!
In my free time, I like playing volleyball, crocheting, swimming at the beach, and attending the many festivals around Adelaide. My favourite cuisines are Vietnamese and Italian, but I’m always excited to try food and learn from different cultures.
I would recommend that international students get involved and engage as much as they can. There are always many fun activities, and you can meet incredible people who can turn into very good lifelong friends. Enjoy every moment and be grateful for the magic that comes with new experiences. Don’t be afraid to try new things, and live in such a way that if you weren’t you, you’d get FOMO.
Best wishes,
Paulina

Gurnar Kaur |
Sat Shri Akal, everyone! I’m Gurnar from the vibrant land of Punjab, India, where every meal is a celebration and every sentence starts with “Have you eaten?”
I’m currently diving into the world of healthcare, studying a Diploma of Nursing at TAFE SA. If you ever need someone to take your blood pressure and recommend a good butter chicken spot — I’m your person!
Why Adelaide? Well, apart from the amazing coffee and koalas, I heard it's the only city where you can experience all four seasons in a day. I figured if I could survive the weather, nursing assignments would be a breeze.
In my free time, I love listening to Punjabi music, going for walks, and attempting to cook without setting off the smoke alarm (it’s a work in progress).
Advice for other international students in Adelaide? Say yes to new experiences, don’t be afraid to ask for help, and always carry a jacket — trust me, Adelaide weather is sneakier than your desi auntie at a wedding.
Can’t wait to meet all of you — feel free to say hi, even if it’s just for food recommendations or a laugh!

Hoang Thach Le |

Xin chào!
My name is Thach, from Vietnam, the beautiful land I miss it every time I have to eat pricey bún bò at the restaurants. Currently, I’m studying at Flinders University and navigating the thrilling maze of Information Technology, where “Have you tried restarting?” is both a fix and a life motto.
I am happy that I chose Adelaide. It is a peaceful city with great weather, high-quality education and zero distractions. Moreover, this city has a warm, homey vibe. Every time I go out, there’s a chance I will bump into someone I know. For international students, this warmth is magic; it makes the distance from home shorter and the journey softer.
When I’m not pretending to understand my lectures, I enjoy reading books at cat cafés, trying TikTok cooking recipes, or working as a freelance English-Vietnamese translator (call me, marketing teams). My favourite music? “Hyper-concentration mode” and “Bolero non-stop cực chill” depending on whether I’m doing assignments or missing home.
Advice for other international students?
Learn to love walking. In Adelaide, buses and trams are... poetic.
And don’t stress when your classmates seem competent during lectures. We’re all faking it to some degree. Just smile, nod, take notes, and ChatGPT will explain that difficult concept later.

Hongna (Hong) Wang
|
Hi大家好
I am Hong, and I am from China. I am currently studying for a Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) at Flinders University.
I have lived in large cities for years and experienced life in remote areas of Australia. People said that Adelaide is in the middle, as beautiful and convenient as a metropolis and as peaceful and natural as remote places, and I was like, okay, that’s for me.
I love going to the gym. I am obsessed with any workout that can keep me moving: HIIT, Tabata, body pump, and sometimes yoga. Someday, I will be a woman with a great body shape, and no one will be able to tell my age.
My best advice for international students would be to cherish every single moment of being a student, join student clubs and meetup groups to meet people, and be prepared to sometimes get stuck with assignments. Those are all unique moments that will never happen again. Never hesitate to ask for help—whether from your university, friends, or local communities (such as your country’s student association). Adelaide is a welcoming city, and many people are happy to offer their support.

Adelaide is known for its calm and welcoming nature. I chose Adelaide to experience the new dimensions of learning within a friendly and supportive environment, and Adelaide is giving me all the positive vibes!!
I enjoy travel and food – both go well together. Adelaide has too many options to try out, and every week is full of HAPPINESS!!
I would extend my invitation to all international students to come and delve into the vibrant waves of Adelaide and to get a good start to your career.

Milan Patel |

Hey, Namaste!
I’m Milan Patel, I’m from Gujarat, India, and currently diving into the world of tech as a Bachelor of Information Technology student at Torrens University Australia in Adelaide.
Why Adelaide? I call it the “hidden gem” of Australia, a city where peaceful vibes meet endless possibilities. From the moment I arrived, it felt like more than a destination; it felt like home
My journey began with an Advanced Diploma in IT, and with each subject, my curiosity for cybersecurity and data science grew stronger. That spark became a purpose, and I’ve been chasing it ever since.
When I’m not studying or coding, you’ll probably find me playing cricket, volunteering, or enjoying nature. I love trekking, walking along rivers and beaches, and spending time with animals. Wildlife is a big part of my heart. And if you see me around, you’ll likely catch a smile. I’m always ready to make someone’s day better.
My advice: think of your journey like planting a seed. It won’t grow overnight, but with patience and care, it will blossom. Step out of your comfort zone, embrace new experiences, and never lose your spark. Your future self will thank you.

Patricia Angela (Pat) Mercado |

Hello!
I'm Patricia, born in the Philippines and raised in Dubai. I'm currently pursuing my Master's Degree in Media and Communications at Flinders University.
I chose to study in Adelaide because of its beautiful hikes, homely nature, and kind-hearted community. Of course, I do miss home, but who doesn't when they're away from it? But I believe that you can create a home wherever you are, and I was able to make Adelaide my own with the amazing people I've met so far.
During my free time, I enjoy taking hikes by the beach with the people I love because I find that laughter and smiles, surrounded by nature, are the best remedies to any kind of stress. I also learnt that the best way to foster relationships and friendships is to allow yourself to be vulnerable and open to new opportunities, because they're some of the best qualities that help us grow the most.
To all our new international students, I know that life can get overwhelming sometimes, but my advice is to 'enjoy being in the process of becoming', because in those moments, you're able to discover how truly resilient, capable, and strong you are.

Mabuhay everyone!
I'm PJ from the Philippines! I’m currently pursuing a Master’s in Technology Innovation and Leadership at the University of Adelaide.
Choosing Adelaide has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. I’ve met incredible people and had experiences I never imagined possible. I enjoy serving communities and having conversations about my faith—they keep me grounded and inspired.
If I could share one key tip for international students in Adelaide, it would be this: never be afraid to ask for help. There are so many supportive people and organisations that are here to help you succeed and have the best study experience! Thank you for pursuing your dreams here in Adelaide. Enjoy every moment of it!

Pin-Han Sung |

Tsia̍h-pá–buē (How’s it going)!
I’m Pin-Han from Taiwan, and I’m currently studying a Master of Information Technology at the University of South Australia.
Adelaide stood out to me as more than just a study destination. It felt like a place where people genuinely care about one another! From day one, I’ve found a sense of work-life balance and belonging here, surrounded by nature and supported by a community that values different voices and stories.
One of the most meaningful parts of my journey has been volunteering. It has opened my eyes to the many ways people give back and build stronger, more inclusive communities. I have learnt to listen more, respect other perspectives, and work together for something greater than myself.
Living here has also helped me slow down and reconnect with simple things that support my well-being, like walking through the parklands or sharing stories with friends from around the world.
To other international students, I would say this: bring your whole self to the experience. Adelaide welcomes you as you are and gives you the space to grow in your own way. Your journey here will be unique, and that is something to be proud of!

Shella Lie |

I’m Shella, originally from Indonesia. I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Counselling and Psychotherapy with a specialisation in trauma at the University of Adelaide. After living in Sydney since I was 15, I made the move to Adelaide for a fresh start—and because it’s the only place in Australia offering this trauma-focused specialisation at a postgraduate level!
A fun fact about me is that I’m an aerialist (think acrobatics using silks, hoops and pole suspended in the air!) and also an Olympic weightlifter.
My advice for international students in Adelaide? Don’t be afraid to reach out for support, especially when it comes to your mental health. Moving countries or cities can feel overwhelming, but finding community and taking care of your well-being makes all the difference. You're never alone in this journey.

Halo semuanya! I am Syaiful from Indonesia, currently studying a Master of Education at the University of Adelaide.
I chose Adelaide because I wanted a peaceful place to study, but what I found was so much more, like a supportive community, beautiful spots to unwind, and endless opportunities to grow. It feels like a perfect mix of peaceful and vibrant. Adelaide might look like a quiet city at first, but once you settle in, it feels like home.
One of my favourite things to do is wandering around, finding historic buildings, snapping photos of them, and posting them to my social media. Adelaide has so many hidden gems with beautiful architecture, and it feels like stepping into the past with every corner I turn.

Vaibhavi (Peehu) Godiyal
|
Namaste! I’m Vaibhavi, all the way from Delhi, India—but most people just call me Peehu. It’s a lot harder to mispronounce than Vaibhavi, so I stick with it!
I’m studying International Hotel Management at Le Cordon Bleu—because if you love food, travel, and working with people, why not make a career out of it? I chose South Australia not only for its reputation as the wine capital of Australia (although that definitely helped!), but also because it strikes the perfect balance between opportunity and a peaceful, welcoming lifestyle.
My friends joke that I have golden retriever energy - always enthusiastic and up for anything. I enjoy swimming, dancing, exploring new places, and hosting dinner parties.
If you’re new to Adelaide, my advice is simple: be open to new experiences. You’ll be surprised how quickly this city can grow on you.

Sawadee ka!
My name is Yanisa and I’m from Thailand. I’m currently studying an International Master of Business Administration (Marketing) at the University of South Australia.
I chose to study in Adelaide because of its welcoming atmosphere, affordability and strong reputation for education. After just a few weeks here, I completely fell in love with the city. The community is so friendly, and there’s always something new to discover. One of my favourite things to do in Adelaide is trying out new cafes and walking along the Torrens River. I also enjoy baking, building mini blocks and spending time with friends from all over the world.
My advice to international students is: don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Join clubs, talk to new people and explore as much as you can. Adelaide has so much to offer, and the more open you are, the more rewarding your experience will be.
I’m so excited to be a part of the 2025 StudyAdelaide Student Ambassador team, and I can’t wait to meet and support students from around the globe!
