Jane was appointed following a nationally competitive process.

Jane’s wealth of experience in international education and exceptional record, coupled with her leadership qualities and energy, made her the ideal candidate for the Chief Executive role.

Jane has held senior executive roles with StudyAdelaide for the past four years, including most recently Director of Strategy, Communication and Engagement.

Prior to joining StudyAdelaide, Jane held senior marketing roles at the University of Adelaide and has established strong networks within the international education sector.

Jane’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for South Australia’s international education sector which is starting to recover from the impacts of the pandemic, having weathered the storm better than other States and Territories.

Prior to the pandemic, the South Australian international education sector and StudyAdelaide were achieving nation-leading results.

International education remains South Australia’s second largest export sector with an annual value of $1.85 billion, attracting students from more than 120 countries and significant future growth potential.

StudyAdelaide’s Chair Sean Keenihan said he was looking forward to seeing Jane lead StudyAdelaide into a new era.

"Jane has already led significant programs and initiatives across the organisation and has the respect of her colleagues, and the wider international education sector", said Mr Keenihan.

“International education will play a key role in driving the State forward by not only continuing to deliver considerable economic benefit, but also playing a role in providing the skills, workforce talent and research output that will be required for growing our future industries.”

StudyAdelaide was established in 1998 to promote Adelaide as a destination for international students to study and live and attract students to our quality education institutions, from schools to higher education.

More recently, StudyAdelaide has also focused on retaining international students in South Australia to live and work after they graduate.

New StudyAdelaide CE Jane Johnston said she was excited about her new role as CE and the opportunity that exists to grow our international education sector.

“StudyAdelaide will use Adelaide’s strength in collaboration to deliver a student experience that is the envy of Australia and promote this experience to international students in key markets, said Ms Johnston.

“We also have the opportunity to further connect international students into the community, creating vibrancy, diversity and global connections, and attract more talented students into our workforce.”
