Entry Requirements

Applicants must:
1. have a completed Honours degree of Bachelor of Laws or equivalent with a credit average; OR 2. have a completed Bachelor of Laws or equivalent with a credit average, plus a completed Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice; OR 3. have a completed Bachelor of Laws or equivalent with a credit average, plus substantial professional experience within the profession; OR 4. have a completed Bachelor of Laws or equivalent with a credit average, plus relevant research experience * within the profession.

Substantial professional experience is considered to be at least two years of practice as either a barrister or solicitor. * Relevant research experience is the ability to demonstrate knowledge of the underlying principles in law at an advanced level and would include the demonstration of cognitive technical and communication skills and method associated with the discipline.

IELTS: Overall band score of 6.5 and Band score of 6 in all bands; TOEFL Paper-based: total score of 577 with a minimum of 4.5 in the Test of Written English (TWE) or Internet-based: total score of 79 with a minimum of 21 in Writing, 18 in Speaking and 13 in Reading and Listening; Pearson Test of English (Academic) overall score of 58 and Skills profile of no less than 50 in all skills; and Cambridge English-Advanced (CAE): Overall score of 176 and Individual score of 169 in all skills.

Degree Structure

The degree is designed to offer flexibility to suit particular interests.

It consists of 24 units chosen from the list of law courses. It is also possible to include courses from other disciplines within the University, subject to approval by the Program Coordinator.

Seminar-style teaching is employed, with one course usually involving 24 hours of classes. Some courses are taught during the evening or on weekends, while other courses may be taught intensively over two or more weeks.
