Entry Requirements

Applicants must normally hold an approved health-related bachelor degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution.

Applicants for the Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care must have at least one years’ work experience in palliative care or a related field.

IELTS (Academic): 6.0 Overall with 6.0 Speaking, 6.0 Writing; TOEFL (Internet): 72 Overall with 18 Speaking, 18 Writing; Pearson PTE Academic: 50 Overall with 50 Speaking, 50 Writing; Cambridge English Advanced (CAE): B2

Course Details

The course aims to provide an opportunity for individuals from any professional background who are working in health related areas to deepen their knowledge base in palliative care within a global context.

Learning outcomes

At the completion of this course, students will have:

  • developed practice integrated learning, incorporating critical reflection and self evaluation of their own professional practice including interdisciplinary assessment, clinical decision making and management
  • critically appraised palliative care theory, research and professional literature
  • identified and described the issues related to the person with the life-limiting illness, taking into account the physical, physiological, social and spiritual dimensions of care specific to the needs of individuals, their families and those involved in their care
  • recognised their own learning style and identified goals and strategies to foster life -long learning skills.

Your career

Palliative and end-of-life care are developing at local and national levels within multiple health care settings. Organisations require practitioners with the specialist skills and attitudes provided by this course, whether experienced practitioners or graduates with basic palliative care skills. Graduates can find careers in areas ranging from rural and remote, acute, community, acute hospitals and aged care settings, to palliative care units and hospice care.
