Course Details

Focus on professional legal skills and critical perspectives on the function of law in society. You will develop high level communication, presentation and teamwork skills in preparation for practising law, or for future leadership roles in a range of educational and professional settings.

What you will study

First year

A typical first year may include:

core topics in legal research and writing, criminal law and legal method, public law, contract writing, professional skills and ethics, issues in criminal law, and torts.

Second year

A typical second year may include:

core topics in torts, the Constitution and the Australian Federation, administrative law, property equity and trusts, the Constitution and the Australian people, the history of legal ideas, and administrative law.

Third year

A typical third year may include:

  • core topics in corporate law, civil litigation, property law, civil litigation practice, and evidence
  • a selection of options in biology, business, criminology, law, philosophy, and women’s studies.

Fourth year / Honours year

A typical honours year may include:

  • practical legal training covering legal practice management, transactional legal practice, and criminal practice advocacy
  • a further selection of options or a law dissertation.

Your career

A Flinders law degree will open many doors, but we know not all will lead to a courtroom. While some students will become the judges and prosecutors of tomorrow, others will chart their course in business, diplomacy, social justice and human rights. Our graduates work all over the world.
