Junior Secondary Studies Years 6-10

Woodcroft College

Entry Requirements

Course Details

Students in Year 3 to Year 6 develop understanding, skills and knowledge through Units of Inquiry. They develop Global Citizenship skills through the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) culminating in an IB Exhibition in Year 6.

Parents will have the opportunity to share their child’s learning journey through daily Seesaw communication and Learning Conversations with teachers twice a year.

Year 7 is the beginning of a three year journey through Middle School. In Year 7 students are introduced to a high school model for education. They have specialist subject teachers while building strong connections with their Tutor Group Teacher. Students are welcomed into a community where their wellbeing is of utmost importance and they are supported to develop good routines and habits which will serve them well in their future learning.

Year 7 is the foundation of Middle School. Through the Arts and Technology rotations, students experience all subjects offered in the Middle School. This allows them to discover their passions and prepare themselves to start specialising with a choice of electives in Year 8 and 9.

In Year 8 students continue to build on the foundations established in Year 7, while making some choices in their elective subjects. This allows students to experience the process of choosing subjects in preparation for later years where they will be able to curate an individualised learning journey. While students may choose their electives, they will study at least one subject from the ‘Arts’ and ‘Technology’ areas ensuring they get to experience a wide range of subjects.

In Year 9, students will continue to build on their core subject knowledge while having more choice to follow areas of interest and passion through their elective choices.

Year 10 is the commencement of Senior School for our students. The theme for Year 10 is ‘Starting the journey’ and it seeks to propel students from the known and comfortable Middle School setting into the challenging and inspiring world of possibility. A key underpinning of the Year 10 program is supporting the social, emotional and academic development of our students.

This is the start of preparing for life beyond school with careful subject counselling, discussion of career paths, work experience and visits to tertiary institutions.

Students will complete a Personal Learning Plan which will identify current and desired capabilities, skills and interests.

Year 10 marks a critical transition point in our students’ learning. A time when achievements in Middle School are built upon and preparations are made for the increased rigour and subject specialisation in SACE for Year 11 and 12.
